Configuring your OS.ORG.ZA-hosted mail account

To configure your OS.ORG.ZA-hosted mail account, you need to make use of either a SSL-enabled POP3, or SSL-enabled IMAP4 mail client. Most modern mail clients (eg. Eudora, Outlook, Outlook Express) support this. Alternatively, you can make use of the web interface, IMHO.

To configure your mail client, you need to :

  1. Configure your mail server as mail.freebsd.os.org.za
  2. Configure your username as your real username
  3. Enter your password (which can be changed on the password change form)
  4. Ensure that SSL is enabled (for both SMTP, on port 465, and for IMAP, on port 993, or for POP3, on port 995)
  5. Establish your Internet connection :)

SSL Configuration

You can configure Windows 95/98/2000/XP not to complain when it sees the OS.ORG.ZA SSL certificates. First, download mail.freebsd.os.org.za.ca.crt and imp.os.org.za.ca.crt. If you need it, you can get the cert for webdav.os.org.za.ca.crt. Then, for each one
  1. Double-click on the file
  2. "Install Certificate"
  3. "Next"
  4. "Place all certificates in the following store"
  5. "Browse..."
  6. "Trusted Root Certification Authorities"
  7. "OK"
  8. "Next"
  9. "Finish"
  10. "Yes"
  11. "OK"
That's it.
